HyproTM reactive liquid polymers are used in thermoset coatings particularly of the epoxy variety. CTBN (carboxyl terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile) and ATBN (amine terminated butadiene-acrylontrile) in various capacities are applicable in powder, solution, waterborne and solvent-free coatings. Elastomer modified epoxy coatings feature enhanced impact strength and low temperature flexibility ultimately resulting in greater durability. Additionally the level of reactive liquid polymer used to impart toughness and/or flexibility does not compromise the inherent chemical or corrosion resistance of a functional epoxy coating.
Unlike other modifiers commonly employed by the coatings technologist, reactive liquid polymers typically require further synthesis. For example, CTBN would be adducted with an epoxy resin for use in powder coatings.
